Scholarship recipient Zohar Avgar was chosen to be part of the City College BFA Senior Thesis 2009 Show for the Department of Art and The Robinson Center for Graphic Arts and Communication Design. The show was open to the public May 18th – 28th.
Zohar’s thesis was titled “What’s the Matter?” - excerpt below.
“My thesis project examines how objects can become symbols through the meaning that has been attached to them. My intention is to remove the visual stimulations that trigger these automatic responses and thus allow the viewer to investigate highly symbolized items through exploring its structure and material. I utilized X-ray imaging technology, which uses high voltage light beams to penetrate a radiographic image of objects. The resulting images allow the viewer to inspect the material and structure of objects, free from the instinctive decoding of its underlying meaning.”

Two students pursuing a degree in new media received Digital Action Scholarships at the 3rd Annual Media 20/20 Event.
