Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Initiatives with Cathy Oh
From Member Cathy Oh, Global Head of Marketing & Analytics at Samsung Ads
What advice would you give young diverse talent just starting out in the industry?
Over the last year, the industry has propelled forward in its constant evolution of innovation with a major focus on welcoming a wide variety of bright minds to transcend the way advertising is approached. Lean in, bring a different perspective to the table and have a solution-oriented mindset is what will set you apart from others. Don’t be afraid to speak up, ask questions and think from a different angle. Those who question the status quo evoke change and continue to evolve for the better.
As we know, DE&I initiatives need to be a priority all year round, not just during Black History Month. That said, how do you plan to continue to incorporate your DE&I initiatives at your organization/agency throughout the year?
At Samsung Ads, we make it a priority to support and uplift all voices on our team by fostering an environment that promotes the participation and success of everyone in the room. It’s our responsibility to ensure diverse representation is met with a strong support system that builds up all of our team members up through increased awareness and advocacy, supported by collaboration and mentorship. For example, Samsung Ads developed Women+ ERG to further develop the women of Samsung Ads via mentorship, allyship, recognition, sharing of personal journeys as well as lessons learned that can provide tangible benefits and empowerment – for our personal lives and our careers. A core pillar in Samsung Ads’ foundation is to advocate for its members’ voices to be heard. We vow to constantly make improvements in these initiatives wherever possible, and we encourage our peers to prioritize these needs as well.
