Jury Spotlight: Dominique Monet

This year The ANDYs have added five seats to the “table” for rising stars to participate on the world-class Jury. We believe the more senior jurors can learn just as much from them, as the rising stars can learn from the senior jurors. This unparalleled access is critical to our industry’s future. Dominique Monet is an Associate Creative Director with GSD&M in Austin and was the inspiration behind The ANDYs Face The Future mentorship program.

What was your introduction to the advertising industry?

I remember watching Mentos commercials and loving the jingle. Then came the Double Mint Gum and Snapple jingles. So of course, I wanted to be a jingle writer. It wasn’t until a career fair my senior year of college where I discovered portfolio school, Miami Ad School to be exact. That’s when it was clear that I would become a copywriter to write jingles and then some.

What is one advertising campaign that you wish you could have been a part of creating?

I wish I could have been a part of the Nike Dream Crazier campaign with Serena Williams. It was so timely. I remember watching it for the first time and getting chills. I even cried.  In the same breath, I feel like the ad would have been even more powerful if a black woman were involved to add more dimension to the storytelling.

What are you hoping to learn while being a part of the ANDYs Jury?

I’m looking forward to hearing how some of the greatest and most influential leaders in the advertising industry dissect and even admire work. I’m also looking forward to learning some fresh perspectives from the mentee assigned to me through the ANDYs Face the Future program.

As a rising star of the ANDYs Face the Future Campaign, how/what else can the industry do to be more inclusive?

At the end of the day, people need to hire more diverse talent. An easy place to start is with social campaigns. You don’t need 10 years of experience in platforms that didn’t exist 10 years ago. You don’t need portfolio school to show that you’re good at TikTok and Twitter. If we made that kind of work more accessible, then we could learn a lot from all sorts of creators. While they’re on the job, they’ll pick up the rest of the ad stuff.

By submitting work into The ANDY Awards, not only may your work be awarded and celebrated widely but funds are earmarked to put towards: charitable donations,  scholarships, mentorship programs, and more programs that invest back into the advertising and marketing industry. andyawards.com
