Celebrating International Women's Day with Rebecca Rinkevich: Director of Political Programs at Bully Pulpit Interactive
In honor of International Women’s Day, we asked advertising executives their thoughts on equality in the advertising industry, and here’s what Rebecca Rinkevich, Director of Political Programs at Bully Pulpit Interactive had to share:
The media often highlights the negative, honing in on the lack of equality in the workplace, but what’s something that you think proves we’re making progress?
Working in Democratic politics over the last few cycles, it’s been exciting to see that women are leading the largest advertising programs in our space. You look at the major organizations now – Priorities USA, Bloomberg’s political operation, SMP, Nextgen America – and their paid media teams are all lead by incredibly talented women.
What additional steps do you think the advertising industry needs to make in order to achieve gender equality?
It’s not enough to have an evenly split staff – senior leadership teams must be representative. Women coming up the ranks need female role models to look up to and female advocates to look out for them.
What advice would you give to young women who are just getting started in the industry?
This industry is rapidly evolving. Your dream job might not exist yet— but down the line it will. Don’t be afraid to carve your own path.
